Choosing the Perfect Hair System Base: A Comprehensive Guide
Share
While the Australia Base offers great comfort, it is less durable than other systems and may require more frequent replacement, especially for active individuals. On average, an Australia Base can last anywhere between 3 to 5 months with proper care. However, its lifespan can vary depending on factors such as daily wear, activity level, climate, and maintenance practices, some users getting up to 6-8 months out of this system.
Q6 Base (French Lace and Polyurethane Combination)
Overview:
The Q6 Base is a combination of French lace at the front and polyurethane (poly) at the rear. This hybrid design provides the perfect balance between durability and natural appearance.
Pros:
- Breathability & Durability: The French lace offers good airflow at the front, while the polyurethane at the rear enhances durability.
- Secure Fit: Polyurethane provides a strong adhesive bond, making the rear of the system feel secure and long lasting. Poly does well with both glue and tape bonds.
- Blends Well: French lace is soft and mimics natural hair growth, giving the system a realistic look, especially around the hairline.
Best For:
- Individuals who want both durability and a natural look.
- Those who wear hair systems for extended periods but still desire breathability.
- Active people who engage in sports or physical activities.
Environment:
The Q6 Base works well in both warm and cooler climates, with the lace front ensuring breathability, and the polyurethane adding durability.
Length of Wear:
This base can last for medium wear (up to 2-6 weeks) before needing maintenance, depending on the adhesive used. It’s often best to do a reattachment when the system begins to shift.
Durability:
With proper care, this combination base offers a balanced level of durability. You can expect to get a lifespan of up to 6 months, but with excellent care, some users can extend this up to 8 months. Just remember that taking good care of your system is imperative, or else you could find yourself having to replace it after 4 months. It comes down to care (read our blog post on how to properly care for your system).
- Full Polyurethane System (0608mm Knot)
Overview:
A full Polyurethane (PU) system, particularly the 0608mm Knot version, is a highly durable and versatile option for hair replacement. Its transparent, skin like base creates a natural looking appearance that mimics the scalp when attached, offering a smooth and undetectable finish.
Pros:
- Realistic Scalp Effect: The transparent polyurethane material creates a convincing scalp look, making it nearly invisible when attached. Great looking hairline.
- Durability: The full poly design makes this system incredibly durable and long lasting, even for extended wear.
- Ease of Attachment: Polyurethane systems are easy to attach and clean, making them ideal for individuals who prefer a more straightforward maintenance routine. Our of personal experience, they’re the easiest systems to clean of the 3.
Best For:
- Wearers seeking maximum durability and extended wear.
- Individuals prioritizing a secure bond and longevity.
One downside of a full PU system is that it is less breathable compared to lace systems. During intense physical activity, heat and sweat can build up under the PU base, which might make it less comfortable for people who sweat a lot. If breathability is a concern, some active users may prefer an Australian base or a hybrid like the Q6 Base
Environment:
While not as breathable as lace systems, the full poly system is highly suited for cooler environments or individuals who prefer durability over airflow.
Length of Wear:
This system can stay attached for extended periods (up to 6-8 weeks) before needing maintenance. Its strong adhesive properties ensure a secure fit for prolonged use. If you lead an active lifestyle, you may need to reattach more frequently to ensure that you can keep your scalp clean.
Durability:
The full Polyurethane base is the most durable option, capable of withstanding more wear and tear compared to lace base systems. It's ideal for long term use. You can expect to get up to 6-8 months of wear with this system, but once again this is based on your personal care. The better you care for the system, the longer the lifespan.
